Annual Governance Report 2016-17

John Jackson, with input from Chairs of committees

As is clear from the committee feedback in this report – the recurring theme and arguably the single biggest challenge affecting the school currently is the number of pupils on roll. In a system where funding received is tied so closely to the number of children on roll even small downward trends can have huge impacts on the school’s ability to function effectively.

Whilst it is a separate issue from falling numbers, it is also unclear what the exact effects of the new funding formula will be in the coming years. Our initial analysis is that the funding situation under the new formula will broadly remain the same for our school although application of the Apprenticeship Levy will undoubtedly impact negatively on the budget. As our Headteacher so often says: ‘Every decision is a financial one’. This is especially true in the current financial environment.
