Well what an exciting start to the new academic year. The children were all pleased to be back because they could meet up with all their friends again. To be fair I think they quite like the routine of school too. The classroom looked welcoming for them and they just needed to get used to the new hand washing routine to keep us all safe.
Our school book this term is 'The Promise' a beautifully illustrated and written story about environment issues. The setting is a city and the children have been working hard to drench themselves in exciting vocabulary to write a negative intent poem about a city. One child was so thrilled with her poem that she asked for a copy to show her family.
For comprehension we have also been looking at environmental issues linked to 'The Promise' through the song Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell. the children have really enjoyed listening to the jaunty song but also really spent time unpicking the environmental issues she talks about.
Seeing as the children have not been in school since March their arithmetic skills were a bit rusty. We have been revising place value making sure we know the value of digits particularly the value of decimal digits. We have got this cracked and are know learning about negative numbers.
We have packed so much learning in, I don't know who is more shattered, the children or the teachers!
