# Term 2 Week 1

In Science this week we started our Earth In Space topic. We made a straw rocket and measured how far we could make it fly. Some of them went a long way! We also had a Moon Diary to complete as part of our Home Learning.

We worked with a partner to estimate distances (1m, 2m and 10m) in Outdoor Learning. Then we measured to see who was the closest.

In Maths we spent the week thinking about the place value of numbers, including decimals. To help us visualise these, we used the idea of the Toblerone.

The whole bar = 1

Each bar divides into 10 equal pieces so each triangular piece =1/10   0.1

Each triangle divides into 10 equal pieces, so each small piece = 1/100    0.01

We practised adding decimal numbers using the vertical compact method.

We spent the week reading biographies of different famous people. Our best text is a biography of Tim Peake, the first British astronaut to go to the International Space Station and do a space-walk. We are going to write our own biography of Neil Armstrong.

In Art we visualised the Space-Bat-Angel-Dragon from the Iron Man (our class text.) Some of us painted, some used pastels.

In PE we started learning a line dancing routine with Mrs Lowen. In Games we are learning to play Netball. We practised passing to each other and shooting goals into the hoop.

We practised our handwriting by writing out “Remember, remember the 5th of November.” We decorated our work with fireworks.
