Welcome to Class 1A!
What a great start to the new school year! After feeling a little unsure as to how easily we would all settle into our new classroom, with new routines, new classmates, a new teacher (that’s me!) and lots of new learning, we have all been blown away by the resilience, adaptability and have-a-go spirit that each and every member of our class has shown. You should all be enormously proud of yourselves Year 1!
First and foremost we want to make sure that the children feel safe, happy and ready to learn, this will always be a focus but is especially important with so much change in the air; this meant leaving lots of room for talk, creating, sharing and enjoying stories together.
Our phonics sounds this week were ‘ay’, ‘ee’ and ‘igh’, everyone really enjoyed these sessions and you all did such a good job blending the sounds to read words.
In Maths, we have been learning to sort objects in a variety of ways (by colour, size, animal family etc.) and have begun to find efficient ways of counting them.
In English, we have been exploring our school text for this term ‘The Promise’ by Nicola Davies and showing our understanding of the story and its messages through creative art and drama, painting birds and freezeframing scenes from the book. As well as our class text, we can now add ‘Beegu’, ‘The Smeds and The Smoos’ and ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’ to our class reading river!
In RE, we worked together to create many wonderful things: farms, fish, reptile houses, racing tracks, there really was no limit to the creativity demonstrated in class 1A (someone even made a McDonalds!). All this creating will lead us nicely to learning about the Christian creation story next week.
I hope you are all having a marvelous weekend and are as excited for the next school week as I am!
