Home learning

At Bloxham C of E Primary School we recognise the vital role parents play in the education of their children. All evidence shows that children progress more effectively with a strong home-school partnership. We strongly believe in the value of home-school partnership, of which our home learning policy is an important element.

Our home learning policy is here. Children have printed sheets of spellings that come home in their purple pouches.  Parents are encouraged to help their children practise their spellings during the week. The time-table for setting and handing in home learning varies slightly year-by-year - below is a breakdown of how the different years do it:

Foundation stage

From January reading books will be sent home in the book bag. They can be changed for new ones every Wednesday.

Year 1

Spellings are given out to the children every Thursday, and then informally tested the following Thursday. Parents are encouraged to make sure their children practise their spellings during the week.

Year 2

Spellings are given out every Thursday, and then tested the following Thursday.

Year 3

Home learning is set every Thursday to be handed in the following Wednesday. Spelling is tested every Thursday.

Year 4

Home learning is set on a Friday to vbe handed in the following Wednesday. Spellings are sent home in a booklet every term, and are tested every Friday.

Year 5

Home learning is set every week on a Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday. Spelling is tested every Friday.

Year 6

Maths and writing activities are set every week on a Thursday to be handed in the following Wednesday.

Spellings are given out every Monday and are tested every Friday.
