This week has been a very short but busy week in 4J!
In English this week we’ve been innovating the text ‘the Kapok tree’. We started the week by innovating a character and then setting from the text. We then had a SPaG (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar) lesson on speech marks. In this lesson we learnt all about where speech marks should be place, annotated a text and also wrote our own. At the end of the week, we DIRTed our work. This means that we re-read over our work, answered questions and wrote extended sentences to our work.
In Maths we’ve been looking at decimals. We started the week by multiplying and dividing decimals by ten’s and hundreds, using a place value grid. We then extended our learning by ordering decimals, adding decimals together and working on decimals on the line.
In RE we’ve been learning about Judaism. We recapped over our knowledge, what we already know and also looked at the different types of Batmintzvahs Jewish children had. We created our own posters on Jewish Bar mitzvahs. In PSHE, we have continued with our new theme, friendship and relationships. This week, we looked at the different types of friendly relationships you have, discussed how to be a good friend and also what to do when we fall out with a friend. Everyone came up with excellent ideas and offered very respectful and thoughtful suggestions.
In Science we were continuing our topic of teeth and healthy digestion. This week we looked at different animal’s jaws and teeth, found out what herbivores, carnivores and omnivores were and what the types of food they ate. In topic, we continued our new topic, the rainforest; we created our own rainforest animals and used them (cross- curricular) in our English writing. We also looked at the different species of animal in the rainforest.
In Art we were drawing leaves, to go onto our rainforest display, mixing different coloured paints to create different colours (elements of the colour wheel) and colouring the leaves in. they look really good, particularly the different shades and designs that we all did.
In Music we were playing on the keyboards and singing songs, practicing for the festival that is in a few weeks.
In French we were doing about a French story called Bon appetite monsieur lapin, with Mrs Oatridge.
