We have had a superb week of learning in class 4J! Our main focus this week has been reflection and how we can become constructive and reflective learners. At the start of the week, we created our own reflection fortune tellers. These have really helped us this week to reflect on our writing, learning and behaviour. We now use these whenever we write.
In English, we have been continuing with our new best text – Beowulf. This week, we created a plot matrix on how to kill a troll. And using this, we then re-wrote the ending of the story. We have also been reminding ourselves where capital letters should go and where we need to put full stops and commas. Who doesn’t love punctuation and capital letters practice? In our SPaG lesson this week, we looked at a number of different elements: power of 3, short sentences for effect, simile sentence openers and extended –ing openers.
In maths, we have been using our place value knowledge to help us with our mental addition and subtraction methods. We also recapped on our compacted and expanded column addition and subtraction.
This week we have also started our new topic in RE. This term we are looking at Judaism and for our first lesson we discussed food which is important to is and why. We all came up with really good ideas and again where brilliant at reflecting on the reasons why we had chosen them.
PE, we have continued with this terms topic – gymnastics. This week we have looked at mirroring and holding specific shapes. Topic, we created our own man made river out in the playground with Mr Owens! It was very messy but we did some really fantastic learning, looking at the formation of rivers, how they travel and what they look like from a birds eye view. This linked cross curricular to our DT topic this term. On Friday, we designed our own model construction of a river formation. We designed what they would look like, the resources we would need and then we wrote out a set of instructions on how to make it. Next Friday afternoon we will be making them.
Note: As next Friday we will be making our river constructions, please can your children bring in any resources they might need and any spare junk you have at home (cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, plastic bags etc.).
We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
