Year 2S are back!

We never left you but technical difficulties have meant we have been unable to share our learning so prepare yourself for a lengthy update!

In English we imitated a lovely story about a lost 'Little Boat' by Kathy Henderson.  We loved visualising different parts of his adventures, drawing these scenes and writing what we could see, hear, feel, smell and taste.  These are strategies we use in Reciprocal Reading too.  In Week 2 we innovated a whole class version and did alot of work on similes to describe snow and sand storms, tsunamis, whirlpools and tornados.  We included allteration using ongoing verbs such a twisitng, turning, twirling, terrifying, towering, swirling, speeding, spinning, whirling and whizzing.  Can you work out which verbs we used to make alliterative sentences? We have also begun developing an understanding of personification. This week we all received 'Super Writer' Stickers because Miss Staples visualised all of our invented versions.  This was because of the imaginative description we used.

In Maths this term we have been focusing on using our knowledge of number bonds and other facts to solve additions, bridge 10 and find the difference. We completed our first 'Mastery' session which started with a question - 'Have you mastered giving change from 10p or 20p?  We learned a new strategy called 'In a Nutshell'.  This means Partner A shares their thinking but Partner B feeds it back to the class.  Partner A then adds any details missed.  We were very good at it.  We then recording our thinking using different coloured pens so Miss Staples knew who had come up with which strategies.  We loved being Maths Masters!

Topic - As Secret Agents, our first Mission was to raise the Titanic from her watery grave through Art.  We created an enormous mural using printing techniques and showed off our Reciprocal learning abilities. We have also sketched her image using pencils and charcoal. We got very messy because you have to rub the charcoal to create different effects. You can use a rubber too!

In Computing we have discussed what makes a good photo. We have also begun researching good images and photos of the Titanic using 'Bing' on the ipads.

Miss Staples is very proud of our learning so far this term.  winkKeep being 'lost in your learning' 2S! yes
