Year 6 bloggers, Paige Atherton and Scarlett large interviewed Charlie Humphries, Bea Labuda and Alissia Schultz for the following post.

In English we innovated the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.  We changed, characters, settings and objects untill we had a new story called Jill and the Sunflower.  We had lots of other ideas which have been kept in 'Save it Boxes' ready for our own inventing which we started on Friday.

Miss Staples SPAG (Spelling and Grammar) group have continued to learn about the many rules that need to be applied when adding suffixes.  This week we were adding 'est' to adjectives and verbs and 'er' to adjectives. We are quickly beginning to realise that some rules can be applied to the adding of different suffixes for example the 'doubling of consonants' when a word has a short vowel sound - a, e, i, o, u.

In Maths we secured our skill of navigating a hundred square to find 1 more, 1 less and 10 more, 10 less. Many of us chose 2 digit numbers to add to and subtract from and some of us applied this strategy to 4 digit numbers! We followed this session with writing out the corresponding calculations and many of us are now able to add and subtract mentally.  Miss Staples says we are 'Magical Mathematicians' and gave us more marbles in the jar.

Computing was fun!  We looked at a game called 'Scratch Addition'.  We had to predict how to play the game and what would happen to the characters in the game if you got a calculation correct or incorrect, won or lost.  Some of our ideas were better than the game! We understood that the game relies on algorithms to work. Some of us had a go using the keyboard to play which is a bit different to what we are used to on out games consoles and i-pads!

Finally, we remembered those who have lost their lives in war during a 2 minute silence.  Miss Staples gave us another marble in the jar because we showed great 'respect' - our Collective Worship theme.
