What a wonderful start to the academic year! The children have settled happily into their new environment and are already engaged and enthusiastic, keen to show off the skills they have kearned in Year One and build on them.

Monday started with a calm yoga session where the children revisited known poses, improving their breathing technique, posture and balance.

On Tuesday the children discovered Bloxham had been visited by the BFG. He had left a trail of clues including a trumpet, black cloak and enormous footprints!  The whole class could stand in one print it was so big!(Cover photo)

In English they have been retelling the story of The BFG using a story map by using words and actions. After identifying the 5 parts of the story, the children acted out 'freeze frames' to retell the key events really getting into character.

In Maths the children have been adding 1 and 2 digit numbers to a 2 digit number of choice. This was followed by the subtraction of numbers. To find the answers, the children used cubes and dienes initially and then fine tuned the strategy of using a 100 square. Many children applied mental maths strategies, counting on and back and some were able to apply their number bond knowledge too.

It is already clear that the children in 2S are very kind, expressing a clear idea of 'what being kind is' in RE and making links with their Jigsaw learning (PSHE).

In Outdoor Learning the children collected signs of nature that indicated the ending of the Summer. They put them in their dream jars. They looked for colourful leaves for happy dreams, seeds to grow settings such as forests and other natural objects including feathers, lichen covered twigs, plants and pebbles.  The children became very excited when they could hear the Bloodbottler searching for chidlers to eat! We gathered together (safety in numbers!) and let out an almighty BOO! He soon strode away.......

It has also been lovely to meet the many parents during the morning drop off. Welcome to 2S!
