One day last week I accompanied some of our year 6 children to the Indoor Athletics competition at the Warriner School. It was very clear from talking to the children just how proud they felt wearing the relatively new school games kit- so much so that some were very keen to see if they could buy it on the internet. They are very much children of the modern world world. It was a splendid session, with the group winning this particular competition. As one of them commented to our PE teachers, “ This is amazing- this has never happened to me before.”

They were wonderful ambassadors for our school and this was a real theme for last week. Our year 6 children took part in Junior Citizens is a scheme with many voluntary and public organisations taking part, with the goal of helping the children develop their life skills in a safe environment. I know the year 6 really enjoyed the session and learnt a lot about keeping safe, whilst representing our school splendidly.

It was the same later in the week when member of the local bird group came into school to work with our year 1 children as part of the RSPB birdwatch scheme. Fortunately the sun shone and the children and adults were able to enjoy each other’s company whilst taking part in this very worthwhile activity.
