It has been a short week but we seem to have squeezed a lot in…In Maths we have been extending our place value and number skills to include 6 digit numbers. We have learned to read them and have been consolidated our understanding of what each digit represents. We have been re-arranging digits to aim for target numbers and practising “no work” calculations.
We have launched into our new topic, World War II, and have been investigating the causes of the war. We think they were:
-Germany lost the First World War and had to give up land.
-Germany became very poor. They had to pay a lot of money because they started the First World War.
-Adolf Hitler thought Germany better than everyone else. He developed a massive army and wanted everyone to be healthy and strong.
-The German army invaded Poland, Czechoslovakia, Holland, Norway and Finland.
We started to read “Flossie’s War Journal” by Marcia Williams and we are listening to “Friend or Foe” by Michael Morpurgo.
We have set ourselves goals to aim for by the end of term. Some of us are improving our times tables, some are learning new pieces on our musical instruments. We also thought about small steps that will help us to be successful in reaching our goals. Mrs Best is aiming for us to be the first class in Upper phase, to win the Golden Boot!
Thought of the Week: Aim for the Moon. Even if you miss, you will be among the stars.
