What a wonderful start to class 4J! This week we have welcomed in the new academic year and I have found that the children have already settled in to our new class and are already working hard, showcasing excellent knowledge and skills.
This week started off with English and our hook to the BFG. The children read, dramatized and created artwork for the first 3 chapters of Roald Dahl’s BFG. It was great to see the different interpretations to the text and what imaginations they all have! We later wrote our own versions of the key features of the text and created very imaginative ‘freeze frames’ of our work.
In maths we have been catching our own Pokémon, in the form of timetables. In order to assess the children’s knowledge, we played a fastest answer ‘got to catch them all’ times tables game. The children had to answer as many times tables, from 2 to 12, as fast as they could in under a minute. They were all superb at this game and we will be definitely playing it again!
We have also been looking at sound and vibrations in science. This will be continued on Monday, but so far we have studied how vibrations are made, had our own science investigation – which was really fun and created our own soundwaves out of string. The investigation was a fabulous success, testing the sound and vibrations of rulers, water bottles and drums of different sizes and capacities. We had some really excellent thinking and writing.
We have also had a very calming yoga session, which continued on from last year. This is to help the children with their posture, balance and breathing. We have also had an RE lesson which introduced this terms topic of Judaism and a PSHE lesson. 4J have also had two collective worship sessions, talking about honesty – this terms theme.
It has been lovely meeting parents during this week’s drop off and pick up time and I am looking forward to tomorrow at the information evening and the rest of the week.
